This delicious, filling and nutritious drink is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. I had been wanting to create a Tropical Turmeric and Coconut Lassi for ages. When I finally found fresh turmeric at our local food market, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. This recipe also happens to be one that can be easily whipped up in no time – the perfect recipe for the significant other to try. Hippo.co.za asked me to write an article about it – so check it out…
Cooking with your partner.
Last week I wanted to find out from the twitterverse if you guys like cooking with your partner.
Don’t get me wrong, I know a few guys that can own a cook and can whip out mouthwatering dishes in no time. However, some ladies prefer the men behind the braai and not necessarily in the kitchen. Right? My man loves cooking and conjuring up weird dishes, which mostly consists of some kind of slow roasted chunk of meat. He is also very messy and I find it very peculiar that he has to use a clean fork, knife or spoon for EVERY step while cooking. Let’s rather just use the blender for this delicious lassi, Love, mmkay?
Get back to basics
If you have the guts to let your man loose in your Holy Grail (read ‘kitchen’,) then you should motivate him to start slow. Maybe look at teaching him the ropes, by preparing something less fussy (and messy) together. I recommend this Tropical Coconut and Turmeric Lassi! It has the combination of typical tropical flavours like coconut yoghurt, pineapple and mango. Add fresh turmeric to the mix, and not only do you have a delicious, thick and creamy drink – you are also fighting off those nasty bugs and getting your bodies ready for the ultimate tropical honeymoon. What is Lassi?
Google tells us that ‘lassi’ is a traditional Indian drink made with blended yoghurt, water, spices and sometimes fruit. Traditional lassi is a savoury drink, sometimes flavoured with ground and roasted cumin. Sweet lassi, however, contains sugar or fruits, instead of spices. My version contains delicious coconut yoghurt, frozen mango, fresh pineapple and freshly grated turmeric. I also added almond milk to help the blending process.
To enjoy more precious time with the love of your life, this nourishing and tasty lassi can be made in a jiffy. Best of all, the ingredients are all plant based and can be enjoyed by vegans and vegetarians alike. I hope you give this one a try and let me know how you like it in the comments below!
