Homemade Bliss Balls

On the go Goodness

It’s been a pretty hectic two weeks.  You know how it goes, right? With a crazy work schedule, kids school activities and general life admin, it seems all one really needs at the end of a hectic day is chocolate. Or wine.

Being on the run during a busy day, it’s easy to forget to nourish our bodies with good food. So naturally, you grab the easiest and most convenient snack you can get your hands on when the hunger hits.  This is mainly part of the reason I created this recipe. The majority of store-bought bliss balls and energy bars just doesn’t cut it for me. Most of them are just stuffed with powders and superfoods, that results in a rather nasty taste and texture, in my opinion.

Tastes as Good as it Looks

I love the taste of these homemade bliss balls.  Just the right amount of sweetness, with the deep chocolate flavour from the cocoa and tropical hints of coconut.  This really is a very basic and simple recipe. You can totally add your protein or superfood powder of choice to this recipe.  I also added a pinch or two of mixed spice, as I love the warming flavours of anise, nutmeg, and cinnamon. That is totally optional though, and you can leave it out altogether.

Easy Fuss Free Bliss Balls

My Homemade Bliss Balls contains 5 ingredients.

  • Nut Butter –  I used natural peanut butter, but you can use any nut butter you wish.
  • Maple Syrup – you can also substitute it for honey if you are out of maple syrup.
  • Non-Sweetened Cocoa Powder
  • Coconut Flour and Desiccated Coconut – I made my test batch with desiccated coconut and it was great. The coconut really gives a nice texture to it.  The recipe below however does contain half coconut flour, but you can make it with either.

Best of all, these bites have a total of 97 calories per ball! Whaaaat?

Best to go make a whole batch of these, keep them in a container in the fridge and enjoy on-the-go.  The kids will also love them, and I have to keep my 8 year old from finishing it all in one go.

I also made these very delicious Energy bites with dates and coconut a while ago, go check it out.

Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ingredients together until incorporated.
  2. If your mix seems dry, you can add a bit more maple syrup, honey or a teaspoon or two coconut oil.
  3. Once the ingredients are incorporated, use a teaspoon to scoop the mixture into your hands. Work through the mixture, as you handle it more, the oil will melt a little bit, and it would be easy to roll into a ball.
  4. Dunk it in more cocoa powder of dessicated coconut.
  5. Keep in the fridge.
