How To Make a Green Smoothie Bowl
Smoothie bowl 101, right here!
- First of all, NO ICE! You heard it! It makes sense to add ice if you want to add a frozen element, but no one likes melty, watery smoothie liquid as it thaws. Best is to omit ice altogether.
- Freeze ALL your greens: I like to freeze all my greens or ingredients for my smoothie except my liquid. This will result in a thick ice cream like smoothie AND is a perfect frozen vehicle for an array of toppings.
- Prep and Freeze: As soon as I buy a big bag of spinach and other greens, I like to get prepping to ensure minimum waste. Wash, prep and portion the veg smoothie packs in easy grab and go sachets or containers for the freezer.
- Check your liquids: You can use any liquid to add to your frozen elements to blend into a perfect smoothie bowl. However, I suggest to go lightly on liquids to achieve that ice cream consistency. Use your choice of milk, nut milk, oat milk or coconut milk are great to use.
Ingredients for a Green Smoothie Bowl
How amazing is it to get your daily greens in by eating something so delicious? No it doesn’t taste like swamp water!
I use a combination of flavours to achieve a perfectly balanced green smoothie.
First of all, frozen bananas are a must! It features a lot in smoothie bowls as it forms the creamy frozen base of your bowl.
Next I like to use plenty of frozen spinach, combined with mint, avocado, celery and kiwi fruit for sweetness. Smoothie bowls are great vessels for superfoods. Add your choice of superfood, collagen or protein powder once you start to blend your smoothie.
Once all my frozen elements are in the blender, I add a little coconut milk, some nut butter and a squeeze of maple syrup to ease the blending process. A powerful blender is a must!
Finally make sure you have plenty of fresh fruit, coconut flakes and extra maple syrup to add as toppings.
