Nut Butter and Berry Smoothie coming up! So, do you tend to get so busy that you brush off Breakfast? In other words, during the course of your manic morning, you realise you are completely famished?
Mornings can be a mad rush and if you are like me that just can’t stomach a big breakfast that early, this Nut Butter and Berry Smoothie is for you!
How to Make a Nutritious Nut Butter and Berry Smoothie
Once you have done the sprint of packing lunchboxes and getting the kids to school, it’s time for a proper filling smoothie. Breakfast Smoothies has become my only nutritious survival recipe for busy mornings. So, I made a Power Breakfast Smoothie the other day, and tried my hand at one of those fancy shmansy Smoothie Bowls too. In short, simply chuck all the healthy ingredients into a power blender and you are sorted in a minute.
You will need a few basic ingredients in your kitchen for this Nut Butter and Berry Smoothie.
- Yogurt. This really doesn’t need any explanation. Firstly, Yogurt usually serves as the base of my smoothies. There is always natural, full fat yogurt in my fridge. Secondly, using natural thick yogurt ensures I get my daily protein and fat. Lastly – great for gut health. Alternatively, a vegan alternative is to use coconut yogurt if you don’t eat diary, and if this gets costly, I simply use two frozen bananas for my creamy element.
- Fruit Juice. Ok, hear me out. Even though fruit juices are a bit more sugary, I like to add just a little bit of juice in my smoothies to thin it out a bit. You can add your own liquid variety here like almond milk, normal milk, or if you really have to…water or coconut water. It’s all about the consistency you like.
- Fresh fruit or vegetables. There is a multitude of different fruits that can go into smoothies. My best is usually banana, kiwi, strawberries, frozen berries, apple and stone fruit. You can go wild. If you are keen on enjoying a little green in your morning smoothie, try and combine spinach, broccoli, kale or beetroot like I did in my Easy Green Smoothie.
- Nut Butter. I love adding a spoon or two of peanut butter in my smoothies. I found roasted macadamia nut butter to be one of my favorites to add.
- Other healthy stuff. If you want a bit of an added health kick to your morning smoothie, you can add your variety of whey powder, protein powder, spirulina powder, matcha, chia seeds, kombucha, kefir, flax, oats and many more. Go for it.
- Honey. Yes, I have a sweet tooth and I love to add a drizzle of honey over my smoothie or yogurt bowl. The final step in completing your smoothie, would be by adding a little sweetness. You can use agave, maple syrup, dates or you can just go and whizz up some cocoa nibs while you are at it.
