I’m so happy to be back in the kitchen cooking up a storm after my hectic flu. Yes, it’s that time of year in South Africa, where every single person suffers from some sort of upper respiratory or chest infection. Luckily I seemed to have jumped back pretty successfully and I totally give credit to the fact that I’m nourishing my body and treating food as medicine. This Vegan Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bomb Smoothie is no different.

Packed with goodness from banana, natural peanut butter, cocoa, 80% dark chocolate and almond milk – I also recently discovered the amazing benefits of plant protein powder. Since I’ve given up meat (taking it very slow), I have been adding hemp protein powder to my morning smoothie and I’m loving it. If you are not into these kind of supplements, you can totally leave it out of your prep.

I’m still learning every day but so far I’ve investigated a bunch of superfood proteins that ensures your daily intake of essential amino acids. Plant protein powder is basically derived from protein rich plants and can be from an array of products like peas, rice, carob, maca, hemp, alfalfa and chia – just to name a few.

I also found that I felt full for the whole morning after a glass of this delicious smoothie, and I even made it for dessert one night when we binge watched our favorite series. Smoothies are also so quick and easy to prepare guys, I mean. Blissful mornings!
To keep you up to date with what’s been going down, hubby’s dislike for veggies has not helped him at all with this plant based journey. He is trying to limit his animal product intake though, which is great, so when I do cook a meaty meal for him I still try and keep it wholesome and healthy, buy buying ‘good’ meat. I have managed to cut out all meat from my diet and when I do cook for myself I’m keeping it vegan. However, dining out has never been more challenging, so I usually end up with a vegetarian meal – I can cope with cheese, eggs and yogurt – but this really only happens on occasion.
Whatever your dietary choices may or may not include, I’m still a firm believer of eating a variety of whole, real, organic and ethically produced food in moderation – and I will still be sharing an array of meals on the blog for all you amazing readers that’s doing just that. - 2 bananas frozen
- 1 cup almond milk
- 3 tablespoons natural peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons good quality cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon hemp seed powder optional
- 2 blocks 80% dark chocolate melted
Ingredients

- Place all the ingredients, except the melted chocolate, in your blender or smoothie maker.
- Blend until combined and smooth.
- Set the blender to low speed and carefully pour the melted chocolate into the smoothie.
- Pour and garnish with grated chocolate.
